‘Eschaton’ is renowned Australian artist, Corey Gray’s latest and most ambitious project to date.
Gray has curated 12 original paintings that are being exhibited in 12 locations around the globe as part of an immersive year-long, food, wine, art and music experience. The project is a collaboration with artistic photographer Peter Hall and premium wine label, Mazi Rosé.
Dream Cellar
$25.00 – $1,750.00Eschaton (pronounced es-ka-ton) translates to “…a heavenly state normally achieved in the afterlife.”
For Gray, Eschaton is more of a contemporary interpretation of pursuing and actualising the heavenly state of the here and now. It is his idea of the purpose of art – a combination of all his loves in one place.
The unashamedly ambitious global art project launched in May of 2019 in Gray’s hometown of Adelaide.
The project’s Australian launch took place at the Lion Hotel Cellars in North Adelaide, where the project’s cornerstone, the critically acclaimed “Dream Cellar,” was already being exhibited. The international launch of Eschaton commenced on 13 June 2019 in the ‘Riot House Gallery’ at the infamous Andaz Hotel on LA’s Sunset Boulevard. Famous for being one of the first high-rises on the Sunset Strip in the 60s, it was a favourite with legendary rock stars including Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and Janis Joplin. It quickly earned the name, ‘Riot House,’ because it was completely mad, oozing rock-art history.
This audacious art odyssey of Eschaton had already been in the works for nine months across eight countries before its anticipated launch.
The project is a culmination of Gray’s life journey to date. Each of the locations and artworks have a very personal significance.
Gray had planned to travel the world with Eschaton, but considering the global pandemic, his plans were thrown into a world of uncertainty.
The project has since built a strong online presence allowing people to follow it from Rome to Rio, Egypt to Iceland, and everywhere else in-between. Part of the inherent intrigue and appeal of Eschaton is that like life itself, nothing is certain.
It is designed to be immersive, interactive and inspiring.
An added playful dimension of the project is the partnership with acclaimed South Australian wine label, ‘Mazi Wines.’
The pairing with Mazi Wines is, like Eschaton, a combination of Gray’s loves – art and wine.
Gray understands that at first glance the project is difficult to grasp, if not, for its complexity, then for its sheer scale.
Eschaton reflects Gray’s core beliefs and values; he isn’t scared to be the first or to be seen as different.
